The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, His Excellency Mr. Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, received this morning, at his office in #Ouagadougou, the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, His Excellency Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

Prime Minister Ouédraogo welcomed this visit, as well as the solidarity of the African Union toward #BurkinaFaso. He also appreciated the Chairperson of the Commission’s commitment to strengthening dialogue with member states on the continent’s common priorities.

The Chairperson of the Commission, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, thanked the Prime Minister and the Government for their warm welcome. He reaffirmed the African Union’s solidarity with the Government and the people of Burkina Faso in their efforts toward peace, stability, and development.

He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to supporting Burkina Faso in defining and implementing its development trajectory, while reaffirming the Union’s respect for the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He also presented to the Prime Minister the progress of the African Union’s institutional reforms.

The Chairperson of the Commission Mahmoud Ali youssouf commended Burkina Faso’s early ratification of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, seeing it as a reflection of the country’s longstanding commitment to the Union’s normative frameworks.

He further emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to address common challenges in peace, security, and development, particularly through the Nouakchott Process.

For his part, the Prime Minister expressed his support for the African Union’s institutional reform program and reaffirmed Burkina Faso’s commitment to contributing to the strengthening of the Union’s financial autonomy through better mobilization of internal resources.
