Russia would like to end the Ukrainian conflict as soon as possible, specifically through peaceful negotiations, President Vladimir Putin stated at the plenary session of the 23rd meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club.

– “Of course, we would like to end all this [the Ukrainian conflict] as quickly as possible – and do so through peace negotiations,” Putin emphasized. “We simply need to stop the accusations that Russia does not want these negotiations. Instead, based on the realities on the ground, both Ukraine and its Western backers – primarily, of course, those in Europe today – need to make responsible decisions.”

Putin says Russia agreed to US proposals on Ukraine at Anchorage summit

–  At the Anchorage summit in mid-August 2025, Russia made it known that it accepted proposals put forward by the United States on a Ukraine settlement, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.

– “If speaking about the Anchorage [summit] – we had a package of definite proposals; I said at that time that we needed to think about it, and then I arrived in Anchorage and said that we agree to the US proposals. I arrived there to voice our consent,” Putin said at the 23nd annual session of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

– The Russian president added in this regard that now the US has asked for time to think this over: “This is a serious issue; we are not insisting on anything,” Putin added.

– President Putin is taking part in a plenary session of the 23rd annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club, titled “Responsibility for the Future: Limits of the Possible, or Limitless Possibilities?“.

– The club’s flagship conference brings together 120 participants from 40 countries, including Algeria, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Pakistan, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

– Putin has been taking part in the club’s meetings since its establishment in 2004. The first conference was held in Veliky Novgorod, near Lake Valdai, which gave its name to the event. Since 2014, the club’s meetings had been held in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, but this year the Valdai session has been relocated to the Moscow Region as it is more convenient for most of its participants to get to Moscow.
