Within the framework of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) being held in Ulaanbaatar city, the first meeting of the COP17 Bureau took place.
During the meeting, the Bureau extended congratulations to the Vice-Presidents of the Conference elected by the COP17 opening plenary and emphasized the importance of effectively organizing the Conference’s activities, strengthening mutual understanding and agreement among the Parties, and achieving tangible results aimed at accelerating the implementation of the Convention.
Additionally, the Bureau members exchanged information on meetings and events that had been implemented in the previous period and those planned for the future.
They also exchanged information on the progress of the plenary sessions of the Committee of the Whole (COW), the Science and Technology Committee (CST), and the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC).
Within the framework of these meetings, discussions were held on the progress of the Convention’s implementation, addressing the challenges of land degradation and drought, scientific and technical issues, the challenges facing the Parties, and the directions for future cooperation.
As the host country chairing COP17, Mongolia is working with attention to ensuring equitable participation of the Parties, mutual respect for their positions, advancing negotiations in an open, inclusive, and consensus-based manner, and adopting practical, results-oriented decisions from the Conference.
