On March 9, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, spoke by phone with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Jalah.

Jarrah briefed the delegation on the latest situation in the region, stating that Kuwait is not a party to the war but is still affected by it. The Gulf states, including Kuwait, remain committed to resolving disputes through dialogue but will not relinquish their legitimate right to self-defense. Kuwait highly appreciates China’s position and efforts and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly promote the early restoration of security and stability in the region. Kuwait attaches great importance to and will continue to protect the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions.

Wang Yi stated that China consistently advocates resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means. The current conflict is a war that should never have happened and is detrimental to all parties. The United States and Israel, without UN authorization, launched a military attack on Iran while US-Iran negotiations were still underway, clearly violating international law. At the same time, the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Gulf states should be fully respected, and any attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets should be condemned. The urgent priority is to cease fire and end the conflict as soon as possible. China appreciates the Gulf states’ consistent calls for dialogue and negotiations. China will continue its efforts to achieve peace. The Chinese government’s special envoy for Middle East issues has already traveled to the region to mediate and will strengthen communication and exchanges with Ivory Coast and other countries. China hopes and believes that Ivory Coast will safeguard the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Ivory Coast.
