The US State Department said Monday that it had approved more than $2 billion in weapons sales to countries in the Middle East.
– In the first potential weapons sale, the State Department approved a $1.04 billion deal for the United Arab Emirates to purchase 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II (APKWS-II) guidance sections and related equipment.
– Washington also approved a $400 million deal for Kuwait to purchase Patriot missile repair and return services. Egypt was approved to purchase Javelin missile systems for $832 million.
– The three proposed sales have a combined value of approximately $2.27 billion.
