Turkiye has rejected Israel’s push to build new illegal settlement units in the occupied West Bank.

– “Israel’s occupation and annexation policies must not be allowed to further escalate regional tensions and deepen the fragile situation on the ground,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

– Earlier this week, Israel’s far-right Economy Minister Bezalel Smotrich said a planning committee had approved the construction of 2,162 new settlement units. That includes 1,006 near Jerusalem, 922 near Nablus and 234 near Hebron.

Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory are illegal under international law.
