As a government, we have thus far taken various support measures in response to the surge in energy prices triggered by the situation in the Middle East, including:
・measures to mitigate sharp fluctuations in fuel oil prices, among others, while also
・deciding to utilize 1 trillion yen from the reserve fund for fiscal year 2026 to provide support for electricity and gas bills this summer, and so on,
and have repeatedly implemented the necessary responses.
In addition, regarding the supplementary budget this time,
・while closely monitoring future price trends and their impact on the economy amid the ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East situation,
・taking into account recommendations from the ruling parties, we have made appropriate judgments to ensure that the daily lives of the public and economic activities are not disrupted, and
・to “respond in a timely manner as needed” from the perspective of “minimizing risks,” we have prepared “thorough contingency measures,”
compiled it, and submitted it to the Diet on June 3 (Wednesday).
Following June 3, it was deliberated in the plenary sessions and Budget Committees of both the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors. With the dedicated efforts not only of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party, but also of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, Team Mirai, and the Japan Conservative Party, we were able to swiftly enact it on June 5 (Friday).
Moving forward, while carefully assessing the rapidly changing situation, we will, as needed, effectively utilize the supplementary budget to ensure the utmost preparedness in economic and fiscal management.
