It was a great pleasure to welcome UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany to Busan for the World Heritage Committee session. We had a meaningful conversation about the enduring partnership between the Republic of Korea and UNESCO, as well as the path we will continue to build together.
Korea shares a deep and longstanding bond with UNESCO. In the aftermath of the Korean War, a textbook printing facility established with UNESCO’s support laid the foundation for our nation’s education by producing more than 30 million elementary school textbooks each year. That support helped Korea achieve remarkable growth and development through the power of education.
Today, the experience and capabilities we have built have become valuable assets that Korea can share with the international community. We will continue to work closely with UNESCO and play our part with dedication and responsibility in advancing our shared prosperity and building a more sustainable future for all.
