Saudi authorities have shut the East-West oil pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina areas after it came under attack, wounding several people, an energy ministry official told state media.
– “The East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions was subjected to several attacks on Thursday morning,” the official told the SPA news agency, adding:
– “The pipeline was stopped as a precaution, and the attacks resulted in some injuries.”
– Earlier, CNN reported that a key oil pipeline system in Saudi Arabia was struck by projectiles on Thursday, triggering fires at pumping stations.
– According to the report, an initial US assessment found that pump stations located next to the East-West Pipeline were hit, with satellite imagery showing extensive fire damage at one station and a separate blaze sending up thick black smoke at another.
– It, however, remained unclear who was responsible for the attack.
– The East-West pipeline carries crude from Saudi Arabia’s eastern oil-producing region to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, allowing exports to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.
