Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said during a public interview at Oxford University on Friday that mediation efforts remain active to prevent a major regional escalation, warning that the crisis “cannot be left unresolved”.
– Speaking at the university event, the prime minister said that “for the past couple of weeks, we have worked with colleagues in the US administration who have very genuine intentions to find a way to contain the situation and de-escalate it”.
– Mediation efforts continue “to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control”, he confirmed, adding that “thanks also to some wise voices in Tehran, we have prevented that from getting out of control”.
– “Even after the election, the intentions are still there, the willingness to take steps toward finding a solution is still there, and we are building and capitalising on this,” he stated.
– The prime minister also stressed that “we will never have a perfect peace deal, but we cannot just wait for this moment of a perfect deal and avoid having a good deal”.
– Addressing the current pace of diplomatic exchanges, he said that “our efforts are continuing; maybe right now they are busy with some other issues. It is not as active as it was a few days ago”, adding that “our engagement did not stop and will not stop”.
