Ireland has been presiding over the Council of the European Union since July. At the Irish embassy, we discussed the priorities that will shape our common direction in the coming months.
We confirmed that extending sanctions against Russia remains an important tool for exerting pressure on its economy. We also talked about the progress of Ukraine and Moldova on their path to the Union, as well as expectations for the forthcoming security strategy of the European Commission.
The Irish presidency faces a number of challenging tasks. One of the most important will be negotiating the EU’s new multiannual budget.
Mr. Ambassador, I wish you and your colleagues much strength and success.
