The South American nation has announced that is has severed diplomatic relations with Iran over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

– “The Government of Peru strongly condemns Iran’s incitement of violence and the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East,” the country’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

– “Likewise, the Government of Peru observes with deep concern the severe restrictions imposed by the Iranian regime, as well as the disruption of international trade through the Strait of Hormuz since March 2026,” the statement added.

– The foreign ministry said its decision had been communicated to Iran via a diplomatic note to Tehran’s embassy in Ecuador.

– The two countries have had diplomatic relations since November 1973.
