Oman has called for the Strait of Hormuz to remain open and free from any impediments to navigation, as Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi addressed a ministerial meeting in Manila marking the 50th anniversary of ASEAN’s Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
– “Vital waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, must remain open and accessible for navigation, free from any measures that would impede freedom of navigation and international trade flows,” the minister said via a post on X by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
– Albusaidi also said that maintaining open and safe waterways requires responsible cooperation from coastal states and all beneficiaries of maritime routes, citing existing cooperation in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore as a model that enhances trust and establishes collective responsibility.
– The minister said that the Sultanate of Oman will continue to support and facilitate dialogue wherever possible, based on its commitment to resolving disputes through diplomatic means.
– Oman, which lies along the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, holds a strategic position at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz and has historically played a mediating role in regional disputes, maintaining diplomatic ties with both Gulf Arab states and Iran.
