– Colombia this week recognised Israel’s claim of sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, just days after the far-right president took power. The country joins the US as the only other country to recognise Israel’s annexation of the territory in 1981.
– A small group of countries has moved their official embassies to Jerusalem, as its status under international law remains disputed. Most nations have their embassies in Tel Aviv.
– De la Espriella had pledged to move the embassy to Jerusalem if elected, as he seeks stronger bilateral ties with Israel.
