German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has expressed gratitude over what he said were recent signals from Donald Trump that he is prepared to bring strikes against Iran to an end.
– “I am expressly grateful that the US president sent a signal in this regard last night that he is prepared to bring the fighting to an end,” Merz told reporters ahead of an EU summit in Brussels.
– He added that Europe was prepared to help stabilise the Middle East once the fighting had stopped.
– His comments came after Trump said on Truth Social that Israel had “violently lashed out” in its attack on Iran’s South Pars field, without Washington’s knowledge, and that no more attacks would be made by Israel on the field.
