The Multinational Maritime Defence Coalition is moving toward full operational deployment, with representatives from 41 countries taking part in its fourth planning meeting in Jeddah, the Saudi Defence Ministry said.
– The meeting marks the coalition’s “ongoing transition from the founding stage to the actual operational stage, having reached Initial Operational Capability,” the ministry said in a statement on X, adding that EU representatives also attended.
– The coalition, a 14-country military alliance formed in July, aims to keep vital waterways surrounding the Arabian Peninsula, including the Gulf of Aden, the Bab al Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, open to international traffic.
