Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan led the Malaysian delegation to the 9th Philippines-Malaysia Joint Commission Meeting (9th JCM) held in Manila, Republic of the Philippines, on 18 August 2026. The 9th JCM was co-chaired by Foreign Minister and his counterpart, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, H.E. Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro. The JCM is the highest bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and the Philippines.
° The meeting reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation and explored avenues to further strengthen collaboration in key areas, including trade and investment, halal and Islamic finance ecosystem, energy, agriculture and food security, defence and security, as well as disaster management and emergency response.
° The meeting also underscored Malaysia’s commitment to working closely with the Philippines as ASEAN Chair for 2026, in support of regional stability, ASEAN unity and sustainable economic growth.
° Malaysia and the Philippines reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the longstanding partnership and advancing shared interests for the mutual benefit of both countries and peoples.
