Another tough day on the campaign trail today!
National backs recreational fishers. For many Kiwis our shores and waters are where families fish, boat, swim and make memories.
So today we announced our plan to protect our waters and fish stocks so they are health, abundant and there for the next generation to enjoy.
That means new and bigger marine reserves. It means greater protections for our seamounts and banning commercial fishing in the Hauraki Gulf’s High Protection Areas. And it means backing innovation to increase sustainable fishing with a Fish Tech Innovation Fund.
And we will do that while protecting the economic benefits – and jobs – that come from recreational and commercial fishing.
