The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced on Thursday that Libyan parties had initialed a draft final agreement aimed at resolving the political crisis and unifying the government and institutions capable of leading the country toward elections.
– In a statement, UNSMIL said the development came at the conclusion of a mini-meeting it organized in the Tunisian capital, which focused on discussions related to completing the first two steps of the roadmap proposed by the UN mission.
– It added that the meeting agreed to reconvene in Libya before the end of August to establish arrangements for implementing the agreement and officially announce it.
– Libya was scheduled to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in December 2021, but they were postponed indefinitely due to disagreements among the political factions.
