Exchange of Views between Japanese Foreign Minister and U.S. Secretary of State

On July 21, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Manila, the Philippines, to attend the ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ meetings, held an exchange of views with the Honorable Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States of America.

  1. Minister MOTEGI and Secretary Rubio exchanged views on the situation surrounding Iran. Minister MOTEGI emphasaized the importance of de-escalating the situation as soon as possible and ensuring free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without additional costs.
  2. They also exchanged views on issues related to the Indo-Pacific.
  3. They confirmed that they would maintain close communication in responding to developments in the international situations surrounding Iran and the Indo-Pacific.
