On September 3, Mr. NAMAZU Hiroyuki, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Japan-U.S.-Australia-India Sherpas’ meeting in Delhi, India with Elly Lawson, Deputy Secretary of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary of India; and Sergio Gor, Special Envoy to South and Central Asia and Ambassador of the United States of America to India. On the occasion of this meeting, Quad Joint Press Release was issued.

Press Release on Quad Sherpas’ Meeting

  1. India’s Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri hosted a Quad Sherpas’ Meeting in New Delhi on 3rd September 2026. The meeting was attended by Ms. Elly Lawson, Deputy Secretary, Strategic Planning & Coordination Group, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia; Mr. Hiroyuki Namazu, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Japan; and Mr. Sergio Gor, Special Envoy to South and Central Asia and Ambassador of USA to India.
  2. The Quad Sherpas’ Meeting follows the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in New Delhi on 26th May 2026 and was convened to take forward its outcomes and to prepare for the next Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
  3. The Sherpas reviewed progress across ongoing Quad initiatives and discussed ways to further strengthen practical cooperation, with a shared commitment to advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific.
  4. Discussions covered key areas of Quad cooperation, including maritime and transnational security; economic prosperity and security; critical and emerging technologies; and humanitarian assistance and emergency response. The Sherpas also exchanged views on developments in the IndoPacific and the broader regional and global context.
  5. The Quad Sherpas reaffirmed the importance of focusing on concrete, action-oriented initiatives. They looked forward to continued consultations in the lead-up to the next Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
