In the summer of 1941, thousands of Jewish women, men, and children were murdered here in the city of Iași, in its surroundings, and on the death trains, in one of the darkest and most brutal chapters of the Holocaust. Eighty-five years later, their cries still echo.

I was deeply moved to speak at the monument commemorating the horrific massacre before a large audience and to participate in the burial of several victims whose bodies were recently discovered.

At a time when antisemitism is once again raising its head around the world, we all bear the duty to remember where this hatred can lead, and to commit together: Never again.

May the memory of all the victims of the Iași massacre pogrom be blessed and enshrined in our hearts forever.
