New Delhi will adopt a “people-centric approach” during its presidency of the group, S. Jaishankar has said
– India has said its presidency of BRICS 2026 will reflect the need to strengthen capacities, promote innovation, and ensure sustainable development.
– New Delhi will seek to bring together the potential of BRICS countries for greater global welfare, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said.
– “Our chairship theme – building for resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability – reflects our belief that cooperation among BRICS members can help address shared challenges in a balanced and inclusive manner,” he stated.
– Jaishankar noted that 2026 marks 20 years since the inception of BRICS, which has steadily evolved into a significant platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing economies.
– Brazil formally transferred the group’s presidency to India at the BRICS sherpas’ meeting in Brasilia in December.
– Jaishankar said the newly launched BRICS India website will serve as a common platform during India’s presidency.
– “It will provide information on meetings, initiatives and outcomes, and will facilitate greater transparency and engagement. It will also help in the timely dissemination of information.
– ”Beijing has expressed willingness to work for greater BRICS cooperation.
– “China stands ready to work with other parties to promote high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation, and make new contributions to an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization,” the Chinese ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said
