Dr Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, has told Al Jazeera energy is becoming a geopolitical weapon.
– Birol said that Europe risks higher gas prices this winter, and criticised governments for failing to diversify energy supplies.
– With regard to the Middle East he said he hopes it is “going to be much better” that it is currently.
– If the ceasefire between the US and Iran does not hold, he said he did not “see a credible pathway” to return to the situation that existed “before the war started”.
