Greece and Israel are due to sign agreements in Tel Aviv on Monday to develop the so-called Achilles’ Shield, a multi-layered air defence and missile protection system worth $3.4bn, Greek and Israeli media have reported.
– The deal was approved by the Greek Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence (KYSEA) on July 23.
– The system is designed to combine existing Greek assets – including Patriot air defence systems and drones already deployed at military facilities on islands and the mainland – with Israeli-made air defence platforms, Ekathimerini, a Greek daily newspaper, reported.
