Ursula von der Leyen has said that Israel’s decision to publish construction tenders for its E1 settlement project is “unacceptable”.
– “We have long opposed this step,” she wrote in a post on X. “It undermines the two-state solution by dividing the West Bank and breaking the territorial continuity of the Palestinian Territories.”
– The E1 plan is for a massive expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank, connecting existing settlements in Maale Adumim with occupied East Jerusalem.
– Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotritch has previously said that it “buries the idea of a Palestinian state”.
