Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, has told his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi, that halting the ongoing escalation and avoiding actions that could widen the confrontation or further threaten regional security should be the priority, said the Egyptian foreign ministry.
– Abdelatty said political and diplomatic efforts offered the best route to address the roots of the crisis. He stressed the need to create conditions for a return to negotiations between Washington and Tehran, building on the memorandum of understanding reached through the Islamabad framework as a basis for resolving outstanding issues through dialogue.
– The ministers also discussed developments in the Strait of Hormuz and their potential impact on regional security and the global economy. Both stressed the need to safeguard maritime navigation and keep trade and energy supplies flowing through the strategically important waterway, the ministry said.
