The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received José Miguel Mejía Abreu, general secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU) of the Dominican Republic, on the morning of this Thursday.
From the Palace of the Revolution, the dignitary praised the visitor for “the spirit with which you have come to visit us.” He did so because, in his view, Mejía Abreu has arrived to “ratify the solidarity of the Dominican people and the United Left Movement with Cuba.”
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received on the morning of this Thursday, at the Palace of the Revolution, José Miguel Mejía Abreu, general secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU), of the Dominican Republic.
President Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed with total firmness: “I believe that the historical relations that exist between the Cuban people and the Dominican people cannot be destroyed by anyone.”
“We will continue working, and doing so with greater intensity between the two parties,” affirmed the leader to a friend who is one to fight battles and who, in January 2024—when he was also received by Díaz-Canel—shared with the Head of State a conviction that distinguishes him in life: “One cannot sit in front of the wall of laments. One must buckle down.”
The general secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU), of the Dominican Republic, commented this Thursday: “I wanted to come to Cuba.” His motivation, and he explained it as such, has to do with the difficult moment that the Cuban Revolution is going through. Mejía emphasized: “It was necessary to tell Cuba: We are here; and to vindicate the historical ties that exist between Cuba and the Dominican Republic.”
The friend spoke in terms of “historical ties that are indelible,” and recalled fighters such as the cacique Hatuey, Máximo Gómez, and José Martí, figures whose stories unite the two nations forever.
During the meeting, which was marked by affection and sincerity, Emilio Lozada García, head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, was also present on the Cuban side.
