Finnish President Stubbs meets with Wang Yi

On July 5, 2026, local time, Finnish President Stubb met with Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, in Turku.

Stubbs asked Wang Yi to convey his best wishes to President Xi Jinping, noting that his visit to China and successful meeting with President Xi over a year ago left a deep and positive impression. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Finland and China in 1950, China has achieved remarkable success in many areas, including politics, economy, social stability, and technological innovation, realizing a development miracle. The current international situation is at a critical crossroads. China has injected valuable stability into the world today. President Xi Jinping’s four global initiatives, which comprehensively and incisively analyze the international situation and clearly and systematically expound on solutions, have milestone-like guiding significance for the international community. Finland looks forward to strengthening high-level exchanges with China, expanding cooperation in emerging fields such as the green economy and artificial intelligence, deepening multilateral cooperation, and working together to address global challenges.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping’s greetings to President Stubb, noting that President Xi’s state visit to Finland in 2017 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence conveyed the Chinese people’s sincere congratulations to the Finnish people. For over a century, the Finnish people, with their indomitable “Sisu” spirit, have achieved national revitalization and development. This year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Similarly, the Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people on a successful development path suited to their national conditions, creating the “two miracles” of rapid economic development and long-term social stability, and is now comprehensively advancing Chinese-style modernization through high-quality development. The current international situation is complex and volatile, and the world faces the danger of reverting to the law of the jungle. China will continue to be an important force for peace, stability, and development in the world today, and is willing to work with Finland to uphold the positioning of a future-oriented new type of cooperative partnership, follow the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, strengthen cooperation, share opportunities, and jointly meet challenges.

During his visit, Wang Yi also held talks with Finnish Foreign Minister Vartonen.
