Canada has sanctioned five senior Iranian government officials, including members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), accusing them of obstructing navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz.
– A statement posted on X said the five individuals were sanctioned “for their involvement in military, legal and communications activities, which undermine international peace, security and stability.”
– Canada’s Foreign Minister, Anita Anand, called on Iran to de-escalate and said, “Freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is essential to global trade and energy security. Today’s sanctions target individuals whose actions undermine these principles and threaten global economic and energy security.”
