Today, I welcomed Minister Wang Yi to Canada. This visit was the first by a Chinese Foreign Minister to Canada in more than ten years, and represents an important step in our bilateral relations.
We agreed that Canada will be the country of honor at the China International Import Expo, and we committed to meeting at least once a year, as foreign ministers, in order to work closely on resolving sensitive issues.
We also agreed to collaborate in key sectors such as agriculture, clean technologies, energy, and manufacturing, as well as to reopen dialogue on national security issues. I also announced a Canadian trade mission from the creative industries to China this fall.
Communication between our governments is essential, which is why Minister Wang Yi and I agreed to meet again at the ASEAN summit in July.
