The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) formally lodges a strong protest against Thailand’s continued violations of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity along the border.
– According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation yesterday evening, Thai armed forces continue constructing new military bunkers encroaching upon Cambodian territory in the area of the Thmor Da International Border Checkpoint, Thmor Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province, on August 6.
– The ministry also notes that on August 7, the Royal Thai Government announced a plan to extend its national power grid to the areas of Ta Krabey Temple and Hill 333.
– Cambodia says these activities amount to attempts to consolidate Thailand’s unlawful occupation of territory, violating obligations under existing bilateral treaties and agreements concerning land boundary demarcation.
– The Royal Government strongly protests the ongoing encroachment by Thai armed forces. It reiterates its position that the areas in question lie entirely within Cambodian sovereign territory, as defined by the 1:200,000-scale maps produced by the Commissions of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam pursuant to the 1904 Franco-Siamese Convention and the 1907 Treaty.
– The ministry said the activities breach Article 5 of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU 2000) between Cambodia and Thailand on Survey and Demarcation of the Land Boundary, alongside Item 1 on de-escalation measures from the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on December 27, 2025.
– The government further asserts it rejects any boundary line or territorial claim unilaterally asserted by Thailand, maintaining these activities shall not prejudice Cambodia’s legal rights or international boundary position.
– Cambodia urges Thailand to immediately cease such operations in the concerned areas, as well as locations Cambodia states remain unlawfully occupied by Thai armed forces since last year.
– Such steps help de-escalate tensions, build mutual trust, facilitate peaceful dispute settlements and restore stability and good-neighbourly relations along the border.
– The Royal Government states its commitment to resolving all boundary disputes exclusively through peaceful means, complying with international law and existing bilateral agreements.
– Cambodia stresses it continues upholding its position that borderlines must not be altered by force.
