Magnus Brunner, the EU’s commissioner for migration, told journalists on Thursday that Europe has no option but to engage in talks with the “Taliban government” regarding the return of failed Afghan asylum seekers to Afghanistan.

– According to European media reports, the European Union’s invitation to officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan for discussions on Afghan migrants in Brussels has faced criticism. However, Brunner has defended the move.

– Brunner stressed that these talks do not amount to recognizing the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, but added that such negotiations are in “Europe’s best interest.” He noted that many EU member states also support holding these discussions.

– The European Commission said that the invitation to Islamic Emirate officials is part of a broader effort to crack down on irregular migration and increase deportations.
