In February last year, I visited sites in Fukushima Prefecture to see firsthand the progress being made in the safe management of soil and waste arising from decontamination activities after the Fukushima Daiichi NPS accident.
Today in Tokyo 🇯🇵, together with Ministry of the Environment’s Minister Hirotaka Ishihara, we signed a cooperation arrangement on the managed recycling and final disposal of soil arising from those activities.
The IAEA will continue supporting this essential work through independent expert advice, transparency and international cooperation.
