The Government welcomes with great satisfaction the unanimous approval in the Senate of the bill establishing the National Day in memory of journalists killed because of their work. A recognition that is both due and long awaited for many years. From today onward, every May 3, Italy will pay homage to all those journalists who lost their lives to ensure citizens’ right to be informed, bringing our eyes to places they would not otherwise have reached, both in Italy and abroad. I think of figures such as Cosimo Cristina, Mauro De Mauro, Giovanni Spampinato, Peppino Impastato, Mario Francese, Giuseppe Fava, Mauro Rostagno, Beppe Alfano, Giancarlo Siani, Walter Tobagi, Ilaria Alpi and Miran Hrovatin, Marco Luchetta, Alessandro Saša Ota, Dario D’Angelo, Antonio Russo, Enzo Baldoni, Andrea Rocchelli, Maria Grazia Cutuli, Almerigo Grilz. Men and women who put their passion and professionalism at the service of us all, and whom we all have a duty to honor.
