Today, members of the Japanese delegation to the “APEC Business Advisory Committee (ABAC)” visited the Prime Minister’s Office and presented us with “Recommendations to APEC Leaders.”

ABAC is the only official private-sector advisory body to APEC, composed of business leaders nominated by the heads of state of the 21 APEC member economies.

Amid significant volatility in the international landscape, ensuring sustainable growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region requires close public-private collaboration to maintain and strengthen a “rules-based, free, and open trade and investment environment.”

The Takaichi Cabinet, based on the “Japan Growth Strategy,” is promoting bold public-private investments in the “17 strategic fields” outlined in the recommendations, including “ocean” and “quantum.”

Furthermore, it will link the technologies, products, and services—including finance—that emerge from these domestic investments, leveraging Japan’s strengths, to new growth markets worldwide, thereby driving growth not only for our country but for the entire Asia-Pacific region.

In addition, with the rise of cyberattacks exploiting AI in mind, we will advance multilateral cooperation toward “realizing safe, secure, and trustworthy AI,” and take the lead in international discussions on “AI governance,” including rule-making.

We will take these recommendations to heart and work in close partnership with the business community to lead the way in advancing the development and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
