A short while ago, at 4 p.m., I held my first phone meeting with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who assumed office last month.

From my side, I once again extended my congratulations on Prime Minister Burnham’s inauguration.

For my part, I strongly recognize the “importance of UK-Japan relations,” and I conveyed to Prime Minister Burnham my desire to work together to elevate UK-Japan relations to even greater heights and to closely collaborate for the realization of peace and stability in the international community.

In addition, with Prime Minister Burnham, we
・shared the recognition that “security in Europe/the Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific is indivisible,”
・agreed to continue promoting cooperation in “security fields,” including GCAP, and
・in “cutting-edge technologies” and “economic security fields.”

Furthermore, Prime Minister Burnham stated his desire to “make UK-Japan relations even closer.”

Going forward as well, I intend to closely collaborate with Prime Minister Burnham and with the United Kingdom, which is an “enhanced global strategic partner.”
