Saudi Arabia’s head of General Intelligence visited Baghdad on Friday to discuss regional security developments with Iraq’s prime minister.
– Khalid al-Hmeidan met with the Iraqi premier, Ali al-Zaidi, and conveyed a renewed invitation for the prime minister to visit Riyadh, according to al-Zaidi’s office.
– The pair spoke about bolstering joint cooperation on regional security matters, and al-Zaidi reaffirmed Baghdad’s commitment to serving both countries’ interests.
– On Thursday, a senior Saudi source said there were “multiple credible intelligence reports” indicating coordination between Yemen’s Houthis, Iraqi militias, and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to prepare attacks against Saudi Arabia.
– Saudi Arabia has said Iran-backed militias in Iraq attacked the Kingdom multiple times. It also carried out joint strikes with the United States last month in response to militia attacks emanating from Iraq.
– For his part, al-Zaidi said his position was firm in not allowing Iraqi territory to be used for attacks against any other country.
– The two officials on Friday agreed to continue sharing information and intelligence between Riyadh and Baghdad on this matter.
