A delegation from the Palestinian movement Hamas is going to Egypt to conclude negotiations with the Israeli side on the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, with Hamas disarmament being the main sticking point of the talks, the Egyptian TV channel Al-Qahera Al-Ikhbariya reported.
– According to it, “the Hamas delegation is arriving in the Egyptian capital to conclude consultations to implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza” proposed by the Board of Peace. The channel reported that the movement’s representatives will hold meetings in Cairo with Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediators, as well as with Palestinian factions to “strengthen the ceasefire regime and ensure the fulfillment of all obligations outlined in the plan.” The TV channel noted that Hamas representatives “positively view a road map presented by the Board of Peace and mediators, provided that Israel agrees.”
– Last night, Hamas expressed its readiness to implement two previously contested provisions of the peace plan presented by the Board of Peace. According to the Al Arabiya TV channel, they are points 5 and 8 of the Gaza peace plan. Point 5 envisages separation of the Hamas military structures from the civilian administration in Gaza and from personnel working in civilian institutions. Point 8 states that Hamas must disarm gradually, under international control, with weapons handed over to new Palestinian institutions operating under the auspices of the Board of Peace and in coordination with it, rather than to the Israeli side.
– On January 22, representatives of 19 countries signed the Charter of the Board of Peace on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Washington reported that other nations also joined the organization. Although the Board of Peace was established under an agreement between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas to govern Gaza, it is expected to prevent and settle conflicts in other regions as well.
