During today’s phone conversation with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, we discussed various matters related to efforts to strengthen Malaysia-Bangladesh relations, particularly in the fields of energy and investment for mutual benefit.

Among the key issues raised was the gas supply challenge currently faced by Bangladesh due to supply constraints, prompting him to request Malaysia’s assistance, including through cooperation with PETRONAS to supply LNG to help meet the country’s urgent needs.

In that phone conversation, economic cooperation was also discussed, including progress on investments involving Axiata as well as potential strategic cooperation with MMC Port to strengthen economic ties and open up more opportunities for both countries.

Malaysia will continue to be committed to strengthening the long-standing friendly relations with Bangladesh, grounded in a spirit of mutual respect, pragmatic cooperation, and dedication to bringing benefits to the people of both countries.
