On July 14, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks in Beijing with Solomon Islands Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Honipwela.
Wang Yi congratulated the new government of the Solomon Islands on its inauguration and stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands in 2019, bilateral relations have maintained strong development, with tangible results achieved in exchanges and cooperation across various fields, bringing real benefits to the people of the Solomon Islands. Facts have proven that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands was in the interests of both peoples, conformed to the trend of the times, and stood on the right side of history. China is willing to work with the new government of the Solomon Islands to deepen dialogue and communication at all levels, continue the good cooperation in various fields, and promote mutual understanding, support, and trust to continuously elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the Solomon Islands in the new era to new heights.
Wang Yi stated that China appreciates the new Solomon Islands government’s reaffirmation of its firm adherence to the one-China principle, which will effectively safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations and provide the necessary conditions for deepening cooperation. China’s policy towards the Solomon Islands remains consistent and stable, and it consistently supports the Solomon Islands in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence, and legitimate rights and interests, and in pursuing its independently chosen development path. China’s cooperation with the Solomon Islands is free of political conditions, impositions, and empty promises. We are willing to strengthen the alignment of our development strategies, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, expand pragmatic cooperation in areas such as green energy, broaden people-to-people exchanges in education, health, and youth, strengthen multilateral cooperation, uphold international fairness and justice, and jointly address global challenges such as climate change. China’s development of relations with Pacific Island countries is aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation and promoting common development. It has no geopolitical intentions, does not seek any so-called “sphere of influence,” and should not be subject to interference from any third party. Pacific Island countries are all sovereign and independent states, not anyone’s “backyard,” and have the right to independently choose their development partners.
Honipura stated that the Solomon Islands highly values its relations with China and appreciates China’s long-term and positive assistance to the Solomon Islands’ economic and social development. The Solomon Islands firmly adheres to the one-China principle; Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, a decision also made in UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. China’s remarkable achievements are the result of the Communist Party of China leading the Chinese people in their struggle. China’s development benefits the world, especially developing countries like the Solomon Islands. China is the Solomon Islands’ largest trading partner, and the two sides have reached dozens of memorandums of understanding on cooperation. The Solomon Islands looks forward to expanding trade and investment with China, deepening practical cooperation in education, infrastructure, healthcare, green development, and other fields, and elevating Solomon Islands-China relations to a higher level. China’s contributions to world peace and development should be remembered, and China’s experience is worth learning from for the Solomon Islands and other Pacific Island countries. The Solomon Islands is willing to make positive efforts to deepen relations between Pacific Island countries and China. The Solomon Islands supports President Xi Jinping’s concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the four global initiatives, and will continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China in multilateral institutions such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization to safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
