The OIC and the MWL: Joint Talks in Islamabad to Support Afghanistan and Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

The Assistant Secretary-General, Ambassador Dr Tarig Ali Bakheet, held a bilateral meeting yesterday, Saturday 11 July, with His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Dr Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, to discuss prospects for cooperation and the coordination of efforts on issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed ways to strengthen mutual cooperation, agreeing to launch a number of bilateral programmes aimed at serving Islamic causes and expanding areas of joint work.
The meeting also saw an exchange of views and perspectives on the latest developments in Afghanistan, with both sides discussing ways to support and assist the Afghan people in overcoming current humanitarian and developmental challenges, emphasising the importance of concerted Islamic and international efforts to provide the necessary support and continue relief and humanitarian efforts in this context. At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Tarig conveyed the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation’s commendation of the League’s efforts, under the leadership of Dr Al-Issa, in promoting the values of moderation and balance and serving the causes of the Ummah.
