Wang Yi held talks with Norwegian Foreign Minister Ed.
On July 6, 2026, local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with Norwegian Foreign Minister Ed in Oslo.
Wang Yi stated that Norway was one of the first Western countries to recognize the People’s Republic of China, and that China-Norway relations have long maintained stable and sustainable development, bringing significant benefits to the people of both countries. In recent years, thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, political mutual trust has been continuously strengthened, and mutually beneficial cooperation has expanded in depth, substance, and green development. The China-Norway Green Transition Dialogue Mechanism has become an important platform for cooperation between the two countries in the new era. Regardless of changes in the international situation, China and Norway should firmly remain partners. China is willing to strengthen exchanges with Norway at all levels and in all fields, including the royal family, government, parliament, and political parties, to safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations, expand pragmatic cooperation in trade, green economy, and other areas, and continuously enrich the connotation of bilateral relations. Both sides should enhance bilateral trade, sign the China-Norway Free Trade Agreement as soon as possible, continue to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in clean energy, electric vehicles, green shipping, and the circular economy, and focus on promoting the implementation of the Green Transition Dialogue Mechanism, creating a model of cooperation between countries.
Wang Yi stated that the world is currently rife with chaos. Norway has participated in reconciliation processes on numerous hot-spot issues. China and Norway should join hands to uphold multilateralism, promote the peaceful resolution of disputes, strengthen global governance cooperation, and push for the building of a more just and equitable global governance system, thus contributing to world peace, stability, prosperity, and development.
Ed stated that the constructive partnership between Norway and China is currently developing strongly. Norway firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges and dialogues at all levels with China to further promote pragmatic cooperation in areas such as trade, green economy, environmental protection, and maritime affairs. Norway consistently supports free trade and opposes the over-securitization of economic issues. In today’s world, amidst complexities, the international community urgently needs to strengthen rational cooperation, follow international rules, and uphold multilateralism. Norway and China share similar positions on many international and regional hotspots. Norway values China’s important influence in international affairs and is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with China to safeguard the central role of the United Nations, uphold the basic norms of international relations, actively address global challenges such as climate change, and jointly protect humanity’s only planet.
The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues such as the Ukraine crisis and the situation in the Middle East.
