Statement by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on the coordinated attacks in #Mali.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, condemns in the strongest possible terms the coordinated terrorist attacks carried out on 4 July 2026 against several localities in the north, centre and south of Mali.

The Chairperson of the Commission extends his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and his deepest compassion to all those affected by these attacks. He reaffirms the African Union’s full solidarity with the people and authorities of the Republic of Mali in this new ordeal.

These attacks remind us that terrorism and violent extremism continue to pose a grave threat to Mali, the Sahel and the entire continent. They underscore the need to strengthen collective efforts in favour of peace, security and stability, in full respect of international humanitarian law and with constant attention to the protection of civilian populations.

The Chairperson of the Commission reaffirms the African Union’s unwavering commitment to supporting the efforts of the Malian authorities as well as regional and continental initiatives aimed at combating terrorism and promoting sustainable peace in Mali and the Sahel.
