German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has signalled possible financial support for Middle East reconstruction but says hostilities need to fully stop before any moves are taken.
– “As soon as it comes to rebuilding the destroyed infrastructure in the region, then we can discuss everything. But first of all the fighting must stop,” he said at a news conference in Berlin.
– In May, a diplomatic rift between President Trump and Merz erupted after the German leader said Washington had been “humiliated” by its failure to reach a deal with Iran and accused him of having “no strategy” militarily.
