Today, we received recommendations from the “Parliamentary League for Strengthening Measures Against CBRNE Terrorism.”
“CBRNE terrorism” refers to terrorism involving chemical (Chemical), biological (Biological), radiological (Radiological), nuclear (Nuclear), and explosive (Explosive) agents.
Protecting the lives of our citizens and our national interests from the threat of “CBRNE terrorism” is a duty of the state, and it is an issue that I myself have championed as a pledge in last year’s and the year before’s presidential elections.
In the government as well, deliberations have been advanced across relevant ministries and agencies, centered on Minister Matsumoto and Minister Akama. On this occasion, I express my respect and gratitude to League Chairman Furuya and all members of the league for their earnest discussions and for compiling these substantial recommendations.
The recommendations include a variety of specific measures, such as the establishment of a “CBRNE Terrorism Expert Organization (tentative name).”
Taking the league’s recommendations fully into account, the government will also produce an “interim summary” for strengthening countermeasures by summer, and we will further accelerate our efforts.
