MONGOLIA SUCCESSFULLY FULFILLED THE ROLE OF COORDINATOR OF THE GENEVA GROUP OF LANDLOCKED DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
Mongolia actively worked as the Chair of the Geneva Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) from September 2025 through June 2026, maintaining regular interactions with the Permanent Missions in Geneva of the group’s 32 member states, the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the International Trade Centre, and the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States headquartered in New York, while successfully organizing the group’s activities.
Permanent Representative and Ambassador D.Gerelmaa chaired and convened the regular meeting of the Permanent Representatives of the Geneva Group of Landlocked Developing Countries on the 22nd of this month, presented the group’s 2025-2026 activity report, and engaged members in detailed discussions on future joint measures and plans to be implemented by the group.
During its nine-month tenure as coordinator of the LLDCs’ Geneva Group, the Permanent Mission set the goal of addressing the challenges faced by landlocked developing countries, safeguarding their common interests, creating opportunities for integration into international trade, development, investment, digital transition, and integration, and making tangible contributions to the implementation of the “Programa de Acción de Almaty para los Países en Desarrollo sin Litoral 2024-2034” (Almaty Action Program for Landlocked Developing Countries 2024-2034), and worked toward that end.
Within the framework of the 16th Ministerial Meeting of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development held in Geneva in October 2025, Mongolia chaired the Ministerial Meeting of LLDCs; and during the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in March this year, Mongolia chaired the Ministerial Meeting of LLDCs, successfully negotiating and adopting the joint ministerial declarations UNCTAD TD/545 and WT/MIN(26)/26 from these conferences, and the member countries of the group highlighted Mongolia’s responsible and proactive fulfillment of the coordinator role.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Permanent Representative and Ambassador D.Gerelmaa handed over the demanding role of group coordinator to the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sh.Sheralizoda, and wished her every success.
