Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Bandouq AlQamzi presented his Letter of Credence as the first dedicated Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ASEAN to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today.
Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador AlQamzi on his assumption of office and reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to further strengthening the ASEAN-UAE Sectoral Dialogue Partnership established in 2022. The Secretary-General also expressed appreciation for the UAE’s support for ASEAN Community-building efforts.
Ambassador AlQamzi thanked Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn for the warm welcome and constructive discussion. He reaffirmed the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to further strengthening its partnership with ASEAN and looked forward to working closely with ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat to advance practical cooperation under the ASEAN–UAE Practical Cooperation Areas (2024–2028).
The UAE has accredited its Ambassador to ASEAN since 2010. Ambassador AlQamzi is the UAE’s first dedicated Ambassador to ASEAN. He succeeds Ambassador Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem AlDhaheri, who completed his tenure in September 2025.
