I met again with my good friend, H.E. Hakan Fidan, Foreign Minister of Türkiye in Seoul four months after our last meeting in Ankara.

During our meeting, we took stock of the progress in the initiatives stemming from the Korea-Türkiye Summit held last November, particularly in the areas of nuclear energy, defense, infrastructure, and AI. We exchanged views also on major regional issues, including on the Korean Peninsula, in the Middle East, and in Ukraine, and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation on the international stage.

The meeting was particularly meaningful as it is the first visit by a Turkish Foreign Minister to Korea in five years and as the two countries prepare to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year.

Building on the momentum generated by President Lee’s state visit to Türkiye last year and the high-level exchanges that have followed, I trust that the Strategic Partnership between our two countries will continue to evolve into a yet more future-oriented and comprehensive relationship.
