Japan deploys personnel to NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine
On Friday (29 May 2026), Japan finalised its contribution of personnel to the command in Germany responsible for NATO’s Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU). NSATU, based in Wiesbaden, continues to provide essential support to Ukraine, through its coordination of the delivery of equipment and training to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Japan’s contribution to NSATU is yet another demonstration of the continued consolidation of its long-standing partnership with NATO. As well as the joint work in support to Ukraine, NATO and Japan’s cooperation includes cyber defence, technology and innovation, maritime security, and defence industrial cooperation.
The partnership also reflects the close linkage between Euro-Atlantic security and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
